For the love of Mexican food - El Patio

It has been in my mind for sometime to experiment with Mexican food cooking. Other important stuff or just lack of ingredients has not let that happen. Though I have tried the most basic of Mexican sides, salsa.

I love Mexican and have been craving for it for quite some time now. I am a sucker for this cuisine and well, what makes my liking delve into the realms of love are margaritas! Traditional unadulterated margaritas. This love, and the follow up craving, was also made possible by a restaurant which is ranked in the Top 5 of my all time favorite eating out places. Today I couldn't help but think about it.

El Patio.

It is a Mexican cuisine restaurant located in the ever popular Holland village, Singapore. The fact that it was walking distance from my home made it all the more accessible. In my almost two years there, there has always been a fifteen to twenty minutes waiting line on weekend evenings. And a happy waiting line, me one of the happy ones. The place makes itself worth waiting for!

Today I was salivating at the thought of their food, drinks and the fun times I have had there. Of the hundreds of times I have hogged there, there has never been once that I have seen a disgruntled face or an unhappy customer. The ever smiling, happy faces around me are a proof of that!

After eating out at many more famous Mexican restaurants in Clarke Quay, Bugis, Dempsey hills etc, El Patio stands apart, for three reasons. One, their lip smacking food stands out, hands down. Even though they serve the regular fare of Burritos, fajitas, enchiladas, the food flavor has always been impeccable and cooked just about right. Second, their margaritas, served in jam jars - are to die for. A variant, Bombay margaritas is deadly! Yeah, I was dead in just two! I like my margaritas frozen, and I doubt I have ever had them perfectly frozen except here. Most of times, the ice just melts away, leaving a tasteless liquid at the end.

Third reason but probably not so distinct from others is the ambiance. I love their colored tablecloths and the dim lighting they use. Actually, come to think of it, I have a fourth reason as well. The crowded, chirpy and noisy Holland village, even on dull weekdays. I just love the energy of this place and there is never a dull moment here, which adds to the fun I have at El Patio. And precisely because of these reasons, I never minded waiting for long or the sometimes slow service on crowded days.

Phew! I actually wrote about this! Guess I must get on with the cooking bit quickly :) Sadly, I don't have any pics of the place. Everything is stored in my memory and well, my taste buds !
